Hey all,
Ok I'm hoping to have pictures next time for you.
As for now I'll give you a little background on the island (Koh Chang, west of Ranong). The Moken sea gypsies saw the tsunami approaching and began praying to an unnamed God for safety. The storm pretty much took a U-Turn shortly after. The first people that came to assist with the relief was run by a man named Mike Christian, who is affiliated with Campus Crusade, and showed the village the Jesus film. The Moken's found out who their unnamed God was, and dedicated their lives to Jesus.
Mike has purchased land on this island and began constructing homes for these people, which is where we have come in. It's pretty amazing. The huts are almost finished, around 30 total. The island is wired and run on a generator at times. And soon we shall begin construction on a church.
The trip so far has been awesome...our group and our leaders are great. My friend Shopping is serving as our translator. We have a lot in common...good music, good movies, and it took us 5 years to finish undergrad. Yes, his nickname is "shopping", and people go by nicknames around here. I believe his real name is "Fighter." How cool, right?
Our house in Ranong is awesome, it's a second home all ready.
Anyway...some important notes:
-No running water, we shower by dumping bowls of water on our heads....quite refreshing. We do have a huge water tank that allows us to refill tubs.
-We went fishing with the Mokens last night and today, and caught a shark, some crabs, a barracuda, and some snappers. Tasty!
-Shopping is an awesome cook, and the food here rocks.
-It is hot
-Learning Thai is difficult. "Sawadee Krap (cup)" - Hello. "Forang" - Foreigner...I hear that a lot.
-Simplicity is nice.
I hope the next post is more interesting :) Thanks for everything!

Ben,
I knew things were going well when you didn't update the blogspot on the 5th as you had hoped. Glad to know that you are having a great experience. Our prayers are working. In most cases simplicity is wonderful. We put too much stress on ourselves. Keep in touch. I love you very much.
Mom
